Dor is a Romanian word which has no direct translation in any other language. The closest word in English is longing or yearning – for people, places or things you miss or for people you have never met, places you have never been to and feelings you have never experienced. Dor is the fundamental emotion at the core of other emotions, capable of transcending the whole continuum of human feelings, from deep sadness to highest peaks of joy, and from one infinity to another. For that reason, Dor has an infinite creative potential once you open your heart to experience, acknowledge and consciously include it in your life.In the 1930s, Iancu Vulturescu was a free spirit and world traveller who upon returning to his native Romania after a 17 year long exile in the Americas, began working on a passion project born from Dor.
He had wandered the world seeking to experience everything it had to offer, plunging the depths of its beauty and its misery, only to find the answer was always inside him: Dor. His many years away from home to become a man had finally led to this discovery. He had a vision of a new design, a new pattern of creating innovative ideas by discovering his roots, by connecting to the traditions, by reinventing them through his personal experiences and his feelings – his Dor of the beginning, where it all started and his Dor of the future where possibilities were infinite, finally merged into one.
Iancu decided to share his vision, but in 1939, a series of unfortunate events occurred and the plan to reveal his new design style was never achieved. In 2014, after a long and enduring wait, the story resurfaced. DOR is a group of three dreamers who re-discovered Iancu’s vision. We are now bringing the story of Dor to light and sharing it with the world – Dor of a new design, Dor of a beautiful and meaningful world.DOR is a Canadian fashion label focused on men's apparel.
